Friday, March 8 | Arrived by overnight flights. Gathered for Welcome Dinner in our home for the next 6 days, the Parador de Carmona, built on the site of a 14th Century Moorish fortress |
Saturday, March 9 (link to photos) CARMONA |
Took walking tour of Roman Necropolis (cemetery) and the quaint town of Carmona with our guide, Carmen. This included the Alcázar of the Gate of Sevilla, Santa María Cathedral, Town Museum, etc. Had lunch at Meson Sierra Mayor. Had sherry tasting accompanied by Spanish guitar music before dinner. |
Sunday, March 10 SEVILLA |
Traveled to Sevilla and again with our guide Carmen, toured the Alcázar (former palace of the Moorish emirs) with its beautiful gardens, the vast Gothic cathedral which houses the tomb of Christopher Columbus and Santa Cruz, an historic Jewish Quarter with winding streets, restaurants, shops, etc. Also stopped at the Plaza de España |
Monday, March 11 | During a relaxing day at the Parador, attended a variety of demonstrations/classes on Spanish culture. Traveled to Sevilla for a light dinner of tapas followed by a Flamenco dance performance at El Patio Sevillano. |
Tuesday, March 12 CÓRDOBA |
Enjoyed a full-day excursion to Córdoba which included the Torre de la Calahorra Museum, a walk across the Roman Bridge which ends near the statue of St. Raphael, the Mosque or Mezquita (with a cathedral built in the middle) and a 14th century synagogue in the Old Jewish Quarter. |
Wednesday, March 13 GRANADA |
Departed early for a full-day trip to Granada to tour the Alhambra with stop at El Cortes Ingles Department Store. |
Thursday, March 13 RONDA |
Traveled to the picturesque mountain village of Ronda which included a tour of the Plaza de Toros, Santa Maria la Mayor church, the Bosco residence and a stop at the Parador de Ronda. Had Farewell Dinner at Parador de Carmona. |
